“Look at nature, and turn your back on it,” said Raoul Dufy.

“I drew what I saw for a long time, but after years of practice, I discovered free expression with a professor from the Ateliers Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris (Antonio ROS BLASCO). It was he who pushed me to “get out of my comfort zone” as he said.

It was therefore in my studio that I immersed myself, after daily observation of the world around me, for my personal research. The representation of a landscape or a journey is reborn from my imagination throughout the development of my painting.

It is no longer a question of deconstruction of reality, but of abstract landscaping, slowly infused into me. Inspiration guides me to compose with colors, materials, light and rhythms, until I obtain a balanced pictorial space, with geometric impulses.

Each canvas represents a new emotional landscape made of shapes and textured colored areas, traces of accidents on the canvas, signs, letters and graphics in Indian ink or oil chalk.

My last canvases made during confinement favor whites, changing grays, sage green… No doubt a need for calm, for the silence necessary during a period of upheaval.”(Sophie Chauchat)
